The program was developed based on the contribution of the Vet Helpline India team to FAO sponsored project “Improving Livelihoods and Economic Sustainability in Mizoram, India – TCP/IND/3501”. The project was implemented to strengthen the technical, policy and managerial capacities of the Government of Mizoram staff to better deliver services to farmers and to accelerate sustainable agriculture-based economic development and livelihood improvement of farming communities.
The program team collaborates with state governments and other agencies in India to conduct need assessment and offer a tailormade training program on Development Project Management for veterinarians in public service.
Generally, the training program comprises of the following five modules
Module 1 – Understanding the livelihood.
The module helps a participant to understand the meaning of livelihood and ways to help improve the livelihood persons involved in livestock related value chain activities within his / her area.
Module 2 – Knowing a targeted village or service area.
The module supports participants to systematically review and understand the institutions and resources of a target village.
Module-3: Sustainable development and goal for the same.
The module discusses the concept of sustainable development and builds the capacity of participants to develop an action plan in the context of the sustainable development goal.
Module 4: Basic of development project management.
The module introduces the participants to a few basic concepts of development project management, e.g., Result based management chain, Relationship between inputs, outputs, and outcomes, ways to measure excellence in a project in terms of economy, efficiency, and effectiveness, etc.
Module 5: Expectation from development professionals.
The module discusses the expectation of society from a veterinarian development professional.
