Common issues raised during the campaign for Veterinary Council of India elections 2020
Compiled by: Dr. Dibjyoti Hanse
The eVoting for VCI members under sub-section(3)(g) of section 3 of the Indian Veterinary Council Act, 1984 will be held from 20-22nd August 2020. The objective of this update is to document the significant issues raised during the campaign for VCI elections 2020. The initiative may additionally help voters to make informed choices.
For the first time, a number of contestants are forming unofficial panels to collaborate and campaign together. The idea of contesting the VCI election as an unofficial panel has its pros and cons. This update considers only issues raised by various panels. It was not possible to analyze issues raised by individual contestants due to the limited availability of published manifesto. Individual candidates contesting the election has the equal right to be considered by a voter. This update is not an endorsement for voting to any / only to candidates representing a panel.

Clarifications:
- The update includes only the common issues as detailed by panels in its manifesto. Panels who may have missed out detailing the particular issue but may indirectly reflect the same issue in their manifesto in a different manner are not included in this post.
- The update includes key issues that have been seen to be common to at least two or more panels in their manifestos. Issues that are unique to individual panels are not included in this document.
- The update is based on various manifestos, promotion material as available in the public domain.
- The issues identified may not be within the mandate of the Veterinary Council of India. The voters are advised to use their judgment.
- The update included manifesto of candidates endorsed by the Federation of Small Animal Practitioners Associations of India (FSAPAI) as a panel. However, with only two candidates, it is not a panel in real sense. It seems the primary focus of FSAPAI endorsement is to ensure the representation of private practicing veterinarians.
- Where required, the comment section of this update can be used by representatives of any panel to clarify their views. The comment section can also be used by any contestants to raise issues not covered in this update.
